Zach Saldacher ’14

ZachI cannot remember a time when I did not love to watch movies. In high school there was a phase where almost every day eBay delivered a DVD to my house. I have since grown out of my compulsive eBay binges, but I remain an ardent consumer of film and now television as well. I have broad and varied tastes, ranging from disturbing avant-garde films to mindlessly funny comedies. I prefer the dark, intense, character-driven stories, but I also cherish the value of a good laugh. Some of my favorite films are Taxi Driver, The Godfather (Parts I & II), The Silence of the Lambs, Blade Runner, The Thin Red Line, The Social Network, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. While I do love movies, in the past several years I have become a dedicated television viewer, some might even go so far as to call me a TV fanatic. I religiously follow the shows I love, and I love pretty much anything that is good. Suffice it to say, I watch a lot of TV. Some past and current obsessions include, but are not limited to: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Broadchurch, House of Cards, Homeland, Game Of Thrones, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, and Arrested Development.

I study English with a concentration in Film Studies (unfortunately, binge-watching TV shows has not yet become a reputable academic pursuit). I plan to write my English thesis on the innovative structural and compositional techniques explored by American filmmakers in the 1970s, and I am also pursuing a Certificate in Theater, for which I am producing Anton Chekhov’s great play Uncle Vanya. After graduation, I plan to move to Hollywood in order to pursue a career in the Entertainment Industry. This past summer I interned at the renowned talent agency William Morris Endeavor (WME), and I would love to return there as an assistant next year. However, I would also be satisfied with pretty much any job in the industry since it is so ridiculously competitive.

Aside from TV, movies, and theater, one of the other great loves in my life is sports. I was born and raised in Southern California, but now live in NorCal, which means I am an avid fan of both the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Francisco 49ers. I always have a lot on my plate, but in my extremely limited free time I enjoy following my CA teams, reading books, and (surprise!) watching TV and movies.
